TIM Flowers admits Alvechurch ‘still have a lot to learn’ following a dramatic 3-2 victory against Barwell.

Substitute Bradley Stretton scored a 95th minute winner after Dylan Allen-Hadley twice put Church ahead at Lye Meadow in a frantic first half.

The result means Alvechurch sit 13th in the Southern League Premier Central, four points clear of the relegation zone.

And Flowers feels his side are gaining momentum ahead of a difficult set of fixtures.

Flowers said: “It was like a basketball match in the first half, there was no structure to us, it was wide open, it’s everything I hate to watch as a manager.

“We had a hell of a lot of territory and possession and dominated the second half, we were a little bit better defensively as a team.

“It’s a huge result for us, we’re still very much in the [bottom] pack, we’ve got some momentum.

“We look driven as a group, honest as a group and like we’re up for the challenge but we’ve still got a lot to learn.”

Church broke the deadlock after just eight minutes when Allen-Hadley lashed a shot into the right corner of the goal via the aid of the post from the edge of the penalty area to leave William Highland with no chance.

However, the visitors drew level on 20 minutes when Church failed to deal with a ball in-behind and Tyrell Waite pounced on Krystian Pearce’s weak backwards header to take the ball around Ronnie Hollingshead before finishing into an empty net.

The home side won a penalty four minutes later as Isaiah Osbourne nudged Hadley to the ground in the box and the referee pointed to the spot.

And Hadley picked himself up to score the resulting spot kick as he sent Highland the wrong way from the spot, drilling a shot into the bottom left corner.

Barwell equalised for a second time on 31 minutes when Hollingshead could only punch a cross into the path of Brady Hickey who fired a first time shot into the net from just inside the penalty area.

And Church stole the points at the death when Callum Sullivan headed the ball into the path of Stretton who fired a shot through the gloves of Highland to spark wild celebrations from the home side.

Alvechurch are next in action against Burton Albion in the Birmingham Senior Cup on Thursday, January 23 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Lye Meadow.
