TIM Flowers felt his side ‘did not deserve to lose’ after Alvechurch suffered a 1-0 defeat away at Boston United in the third round of the FA Trophy.
An overhead kick from Adam Marriott on 78 minutes settled the tie at the Jakemans Community Stadium as Church went toe-to-toe with a team two divisions above them.
Flowers tasted defeat for the first time since his appointment as Alvechurch boss and heaped praise on his players after pushing the National League side all the way.
Flowers said: “I thought we were terrific, our lads were absolutely superb from start to finish.
“Since I’ve been in the building, the minimum requirement I’ve asked for is everything you’ve got and I’ve had that in every single game.
“We’ve taken a team who are two divisions above us right to the wire, we didn’t deserve to lose but we did and that happens.
“We were very good, I’ve been very impressed with the quality of players we’ve got.
“We’re not shipping goals, we have identified we do need to score more goals.”
The game took place in the midst of Storm Darragh as swirling winds and heavy rain made conditions difficult for both teams.
The visitors almost broke the deadlock in the first half when Ammar Dyer intercepted a pass and drove into the box before firing a shot against the crossbar.
And Dyer went close again soon after as he cut in from the left and curled a shot inches wide of the post.
Church spurned a glorious chance after the break as Joe Willis delivered a cross from the right into the path of Matt Richards who saw his shot from 12-yards out saved by Boston goalkeeper Aidan Stone.
However, Boston won tie 12 minutes from time after Church could only clear a cross from the left high into the air and Marriott produced a stunning overhead kick to turn the dropping ball into the net.
Alvechurch are next in action against Spalding United on Saturday, December 14 with kick-off at 3pm at Lye Meadow.
