Goals galore as Millers move into top three

FECKENHAM moved into third place in Midland League Division Two as they maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 4-2 win at fellow early-season high-flyers Boldmere Sports & Social Falcons.

The unbeaten Millers have 13 points from five matches and are just three points behind leaders Moor Green Academy with a game in hand heading into Saturday’s visit of Coventry Alvis to the Entaco.

Feckenham were excellent before the break on Saturday and showed resilience for large parts of the second half as the hosts rallied to get back into the game.

The visitors were soon 1-0 up after a trademark long throw from Jake Donnelly was worked into Jordan Adams who controlled well and saw his half-volley blocked, only for Jak Albutt to acrobatically net from the rebound.

Ben Cox doubled the advantage when he coolly converted when one-on-one before the home side rallied well with a period of pressure which forced Millers keeper Ryan Young into action.

However, Feckenham regained the momentum and, after Donnelly had headed just wide and Cox fired into the side-netting, it was 3-0 on 40 minutes when Danny Murphy picked up the ball on halfway and easily beat his marker before finishing with a looped effort from just inside the area.

The outcome was put beyond all doubt on 59 minutes when Albutt was sent clear by a defence-splitting pass and clinically netted his seventh goal of the campaign.

Boldmere did not surrender and pulled a goal back on 72 minutes when a goalline scrabble ensued in the Feckenham penalty box, which eventually led to a cross-shot at pace ricocheting off Jamie Hatfield and into the back of the net.

Suddenly Young was called into action and had to sharply save a close-range strike but he was beaten again with nine minutes remaining when poor defending was punished.
