REDDITCH United Ladies maintained their 100 per cent West Midlands Division One South record with a routine 5-0 home win over Rugby Town on Sunday.

The Reds are sitting pretty with eight wins from as many league attempts to their name, but remain second behind Gornal who have a three-point advantage having played two more games.

It took just ten minutes for in-form Ellie Gerhold to give Gary Barrell’s side the lead as she robbed the opposition right back of possession before firing a firm strike into the net.

The advantage was doubled 15 minutes later when Mckenzie Karas charged down the right before netting from the edge of the area and it was 3-0 just two minutes later when Amy Kendall’s low shot squeezed under the Town keeper.

Without ever threatening a comeback, Rugby show admirable resistance in the second half and Redditch had to wait until the 80th minute to extend their lead when a deep cross from Rebecca Gwilliam was chased down by Sam Berry whose tenacity was rewarded with a tap-in from close range after the Rugby keeper had fumbled the ball.

The scoring was completed in the dying moments when Sofi Liperis made great progress on the right before seeing her strike saved, but the ball rebounded to Maisie Farr who was quickest to react and put the icing on the cake.

The Reds visit third placed Solihull United on Sunday (2pm).

Meanwhile, the Reds have bolstered their ranks this week with the addition of Zoe Clarke on dual registration from Aston Villa Ladies.

Clarke is an exceptionally talented player who has played for and captained the Worcestershire County Schools FA team from U14s to U16s level, as well as playing for Villa from U11s all the way through to U17s level and captained the U17s team to the FA Youth Cup Final in the 2015/16 season.

She is currently joint captain of the Aston Villa WSL Development Squad and has gained playing time for the first team during pre-season matches against fellow WSL sides Reading and Sheffield.

Barrell said: “This signing will be a boost to the team and provide an additional attacking threat on the left side of our attack.

“Zoe will be available and eligible for selection for this weekend’s top of the table clash with Solihull United.”
