REDDITCH United Ladies defeated Droitwich for the second time this season to continue their relentless progress in West Midlands Division One South.
Gary Barrell’s side won 4-0 on the road on Sunday to leave themselves with five wins from as many league games. They sit second in the table – three points behind leaders Gornal with a game in hand – ahead of Sunday’s (2pm) key clash between the top two at the Trico Stadium.
Spurred on by the competitiveness of Sarah Kennedy, Mayme Conroy and Kerstin Ballard, the Reds took an 18th-minute lead when Conroy’s deflected strike found the net.
The advantage was doubled eight minutes later when the talismanic Ellie Gerhold showed superb footwork to evade a Droitwich defender before converting with aplomb.
With Sian Cousins and Maisie Farr providing a great shield to the Reds’ defence and Mckenzie Karas impressing in midfield, the visitors were comfortable in the second half, especially once the lead had been extended to 3-0 on 48 minutes when Sofi Liperis found Gerhold who did the rest.
The icing was put on the cake by set piece specialist Farr, who scored directly from a corner, bending the ball around the keeper into the far corner.
Player of the match was Anna Nicod.
