In-form Reds Ladies face leaders in big test

Redditch Editorial 19th Oct, 2017   0

REDDITCH United Ladies will bid to continue their perfect start to the season when they host leaders Solihull United in West Midlands Division One South on Sunday (2pm).

The Reds – who sit fourth with nine points from three games – are one of three sides with 100 per cent records, with this weekend’s visitors having won five from five in the league.

A big test awaits Gary Barrell’s Reds, but they will go into the game in fine spirits after another convincing victory on Sunday.

Redditch were never in danger against fellow Division One South outfit Solihull Sporting who left the Trico Stadium on the end of a 6-0 defeat in the Birmingham County Cup first round.

The Reds, who are into the first round proper of the Women’s FA Cup, handed debuts to Erin Ridden and Rebekka Langhammer and took the lead when Mayme Conroy slid in Georgia Conway, who cut inside her marker before striking the ball with pace and power past the Sporting goalkeeper.

Redditch continued to dominate but had to wait until just before the break to double their advantage when Maisie Farr’s powerful free kick dipped just under the bar.

Ridden marked her debut in style by making it 3-0 with a strike from the edge of the box after a dazzling run and the outcome was put completely beyond doubt when Kerstin Ballard and Ellie Gerhold combined to win a penalty which the latter converted.

Player of the match Farr’s quality from set pieces was showcased in the final ten minutes when Conroy and Gerhold both headed home from free kicks to put the icing on the cake.
