IN PICTURES - Redditch United play out stalemate with Lowestoft

REDDITCH United were held to a goalless draw at Lowestoft Town – a result which leaves the Reds just two points above the relegation zone.

Dan Sweeney hit the woodwork twice for the visitors but that was as close as Redditch came to a winner despite a dominant display at Crown Meadow

The result extends the Reds winless run in the league to eight matches – five of which have ended in draws.

Redditch came within inches of taking the lead when Sweeney’s free-kick cannoned back of the crossbar on 13 minutes.

The home side responded when Ryan Wollacott was forced to clear off the line shortly after.

Matt Clarke’s side then saw another chance come and go when Lewis Hudson and Kieran Day combined down the left before Alex Cameron’s volley into the ground was saved by Town keeper Warren Burwood.

The second-half started in a similar vein to the first as Sweeney raced onto Wollacott’s pass before striking against the left-hand post from a tight angle.

Lowestoft responded with chances of their own as Jake Reed fired over from the edge of the penalty area before a header went narrowly wide of the Redditch goal soon after.

And after twice denying the Reds – the woodwork then came to United’s rescue with six minutes left to play.

Owen Murphy curled a ball in from the left that was met by Joshua Harvey at the back post only to see his effort strike the right frame of the goal.

The hosts almost snatched the points at the death when Reed ran onto a long ball over the top of the Redditch defence and poked an effort through the legs of Reds keeper Kieran Boucher only for Luke Cox to miraculously clear off the line.

Redditch are next in action away at St Ives Town on Tuesday, November 9 with kick-off at Westwood Road at 7:45pm.
