REDDITCH teenagers Alex Maggs and Felix Gill have claimed glory in International Tennis Federation (ITF) events at home and abroad.
Maggs partnered Matthew Clegg from Yorkshire in the six-day ITF Nike Junior International in Liverpool. This grade five event saw Maggs reach the semi-final in the singles event, whilst the town ace was unstoppable with partner Clegg in the doubles.
They secured victory by beating fellow Brits Rahul Dhokia and James Mackinlay 4-6, 7-6, 10-8 in the final.
Gill was further afield in India competing in the ITF Delhi grade four event which also took place over six days.
Gill had a good run in the singles event as he won all three qualifying matches to reach the main draw and progressed to the quarter-finals before losing to India’s Dev Javia.
Gill paired up with Finn Murgett from Yorkshire to take the doubles trophy, beating number three seeds Javia and Vannemreddy from India 6-4, 6-2 on their way to victory.
These were the first international victories for both Maggs and Felix who are aged 16 and 15 respectively and competing in 18&U events.
Tony Ravenscroft, the duo’s head coach at Redditch HDA Tennis Club, said: “With continued hard work and commitment to the sport, the boys have the potential to achieve more victories at international events.”
