MARTIAL ARTS - FSK win host of medals in Norwich

FSK Redditch claimed a number of medals as Shihan Treadwell and his talented crop of athletes impressed at the East of England Martial Arts Championships in Norwich.

The tournament acted as a qualifier for the 2024 European Martial Arts Games as Treadwell and his squad made a great impression with several podium finishes.

Shihan Treadwell claimed gold in both kata and kumite whilst Ollie Scott placed first in kata and continuous sparring and second in point sparring.

Both Josh Thorp and Theo Giles claimed medals of each colour with the former first in weapon kata, second in individual kata and third in kumite,

Giles won gold in kumite, silver in individual kata and bronze in team kata whilst Dean Cooke also clinched kumite gold and was third in kata and Richard Giles placed second in kumite.

Shihan Treadwell said: “I could not have asked for more from this group of students, they led from the front on and off the mat and supported each other throughout the day.

“Martial arts is firstly about progression and growth within the individual and it’s great to see at these events people going from strength to strength and growing in confidence.”
