MATCHBOROUGH’S Lewis Maunder has made an impressive start to his new boxing season having secured two victories in as many weeks.

The 16-year-old middleweight, who boxes out of the Jewellery Quarter Boxing Club in Birmingham, has hit the ground running as he continues to flourish.

First up Maunder boxed on the Jewellery Quarter BC home show at Gatecrasher nightclub in Birmingham in front of a sell-out 500-strong crowd.

The Redditch fighter was matched with a Plymouth boxer and won the contest at a canter as he delivered a standing count to his opponent to boot.

A week later Maunder travelled to AFC Telford United stadium to take on the powerful and highly-rated Shrewsbury prospect Myles Mahmood.

Following a tough first round, Maunder stepped up through the gears and delivered a standing count to his now bewildered opponent in both rounds two and three to emerge the victor once again.

Maunder is last year’s junior champion and will be looking for more honours this year in the Youth Championships.
