Millers reach League Cup final

Redditch Editorial 3rd May, 2018   0

FECKENHAM’S joint assistant boss Tom Davies hailed the Millers’ efforts after a thrilling 4-3 victory at Hampton on Tuesday booked their place in the final of the Presidents (Midland League Division Two) Cup.

Feckenham rallied from 3-1 down to set up a final against current leaders and title favourites NKF Burbage on Tuesday, May 22 at Boldmere St Michaels.

Feckenham fell behind early on before Jack Brimmell’s half-volley hauled them level, only for the hosts to open a two-goal advantage by the hour mark.

However, Jake Donnelly’s header made it 3-2 before Brimmell took advantage of a mistake to level the score with nine minutes remaining.

Then, in stoppage time, Umit Eminoglu’s marauding run led to a chance for Ben Welsh who converted from close range to spark scenes of jubilation among the Feckenham players and management.

Davies said: “We’re delighted to progress to the final and to play this season’s best side in the fixture makes it extra special.

“I thought we thoroughly deserved the win against a strong Hampton side. We went in at half-time 2-1 down, made slight alterations to our play and eventually got the rewards for that.

“We kept plugging away and, even at 3-1, the lads continued to play in the way we asked them, which is a huge credit to them.

“We look forward to a very busy schedule now with another semi-final, a final and the most remaining games in the league left. We play Palsall Villa and Smithswood Firs, which provide two tough fixtures and different styles to come up against.

“We’ve trained hard during a tough winter and hopefully we can reap the rewards of that in the latter stages of the season.”

Attentions now turn to an incredibly packed finale to the league season, with last night’s (Thursday) home match against second-placed Smithswood Firs the first of eight remaining league fixtures in just 12 days.

Feckenham went into the match in eighth place following a 2-2 draw at home to Earlswood Town on Saturday, when Jack Brimmell and Jake Donnelly were on target for the hosts.

On Saturday the Millers host Pelsall Villa, before visiting Fairfield Villa on Monday (3pm), hosting NKF Burbage on Tuesday and then entertaining Coton Green on Thursday.
