WYTHALL Gymnastics Club members turned on the style at the simultaneous West Midlands Milano Team Regional Finals and West Midlands School Gymnastics Association floor and vault competition at Fenton Manor in Stoke to book places in the national finals at the same venue in March.
Medals of all colours were won by Wythall GC youngsters in various disciplines at the regional finals, which came hot on the heels of numerous club members booking their places at May’s National Schools Sports Acrobatic & Tumbling Pairs finals.
Schools from across the area were represented in this latest competition, including Meadow Green Primary School (Wythall) trio Millie Waterhouse, Ayla Goucher and Eve Freeman who won bronze medals in the U11 age group to qualify for the Milano nationals in the artistic floor and vault trios.
Gold medals were won by Studley High U13 trio Ella Rose Garratt, Mia Browning and Phoebe Hunt and silver came the way of Woodrush High U13 girls Harley Middleton, Neve Hood, Rebekah Lyndon and Emma Daymond.
In the concurrent West Midlands School Gymnastics Association floor and vault competition, the Meadow Green U11 girls’ team of Waterhouse, Goucher, Freeman and Isobel Spencer qualified for the floor and vault national finals. Spencer scored 14.8 for her vault, which was Meadow Green’s highest score of the day.
In Studley High’s first year as a team, Garratt, Browning, Abbie Staples and Hunt won silver in the U14s floor and vault and there was individual bronze for Garratt in the same age group.
Gold medals were won by Woodrush High’s mixed floor and vault U13s team of Zaakir Miah, Joshua Payne, Lyndon, Daymond and Lily Edwards.
Pupils from Sharmans Cross Junior School (Solihull) and The Coppice (Hollywood) have also qualified for the Milano nationals.
