National glory for Hill

Redditch Editorial 23rd Jan, 2020   0

INKBERROW’S Adam Hill Jnr turned on the style to triumph at the British Short Track Championships at Ice Sheffield.

Hill won the Junior C (13 to 15-year-old) boys’ category, dominating in all distances to secure his third national title having won in younger age groups in previous seasons.

He won all his races over the weekend in 500m, 777m and 1,000m distances to secure the crown.

As a bonus, it was a Hill family double at the British Championships as Adam’s dad – Adam Hill Snr – finished in first place in the over 50s age group.

Adam Jnr, 15, has already caught the eye of national coach Richard Shoebridge and was invited to train with the British team at the National Ice Centre in Nottingham over the summer when, among others, he skated with Olympian Elise Christie.

The experience has clearly proved valuable as already this season Adam Jnr has competed internationally, racing in Europe’s elite ‘Star Class’ competitions and has established himself within the top ten in Europe.

“Richard has set Adam the target of qualifying for the Junior World Championships, which will be held in Salt Lake City, USA, next year,” said Adam Snr.

“It would be quite an achievement for him to get there but, he is so focused as an athlete and works so hard, that we have every faith in him.”

Adam Jnr skates for Mohawks Ice Racing Club based at Planet Ice, Solihull, and is coached by Olympian Tom Iveson. The club always welcomes new members and details are available at mohawksirc.wixsite.com/mohawksirc.
