New-look Kingfishers aiming to impress

Redditch Editorial 6th Apr, 2017   0

REDDITCH Entaco are aiming to build some momentum to take into the Worcestershire League Division One campaign, starting with Saturday’s opening pre-season friendly at Studley.

The reigning Division Two champions then face a home friendly with Earlswood a week on Saturday before launching their league season against relegated Eastnor at Bromsgrove Road on April 22.

The Kingfishers have a new captain in the shape of Russell Southwick who has replaced Greg Chinn, whilst the club have signed Haris Ali from Astwood Bank, Ghulam Moyhuddin from Smethwick and former first team captains Luke Davis and Adam Gailey who have returned to the club.

Redditch have also recruited New Zealander Brandon Weal. The 19-year-old wicketkeeper/batsman enjoyed a successful season in the North Yorkshire Premier League in 2016 with Acomb.

Weal will make his debut at Studley.

On the outgoing front, Sam Egan and Jack Roberson have moved to Studley and Halesowen respectively.

Redditch 2nds, who host Studley on Saturday, also have a new captain, Asif Mukhtar, who replaces the evergreen Geoff Eley.

To mark the opening of the season the club are holding a Q&A evening with former Worcestershire, Glamorgan and England star Simon Jones.

Tickets are available on the door for £15, which includes a fish and chip supper and disco. The evening starts from 7.30pm and all are welcome. For more details email Liam Phelan at [email protected].
