THE LAWN Tennis Association Herefordshire & Worcestershire county awards evening served up delight for Redditch HDA Tennis Club which was named 2017 Club of the Year.
Redditch HDA head coach Tony Ravenscroft said collecting the honour at Saturday’s prestigious event at Worcestershire County Cricket Club was a big moment for the club.
“The club was presented with the award for many reasons,” explained Ravenscroft. “The club improved its facilities in the last year with two brand new courts and two repainted courts, all in purple and green.
“The new courts were funded by Sport England and sponsored by Knights Pharmacy and Jack Sharkey.
“Redditch HDA offers social tennis, coaching and competition for all ages and abilities all year round. There has been an increase in membership and the number of non-members accessing the club has more than doubled.
“The club has more teams competing in the Aegon Team Tennis leagues than any other Herefordshire and Worcestershire club and hosted more than 60 tournaments in the last year including the Redditch School Games competition.
“The committee and coaching team have strong links with local schools, H&W LTA and the Midlands development team. The coaching team help develop and support players of all levels from beginners through to international level.
“Player sponsorship from Debbie Pegler has helped players compete in international events and the strong links with many groups, organisations and individuals helped us achieve the award.”
The Batchley-based club continues to offer opportunities for all ages and abilities to get involved in tennis. For more details contact Ravenscroft on 07969 649092 or email [email protected].
