Reds Ladies set for FA Cup debut

Redditch Editorial 31st Aug, 2017   0

REDDITCH United Ladies geared up for Sunday’s eagerly awaited FA Cup tie against Stockingford AA Pavilion with two impressive pre-season victories this week.

Monday’s 6-1 victory at home to partner club Barry Town United Ladies was followed by a battling 5-3 win against a Coventry United Ladies XI at the Trico on Wednesday.

The Coventry side featured a combination of players who will compete in The FA Women’s Premier League South as well as The FA Women’s Premier League Development League during the 2017/18 season.

Such a test to finish their pre-season programme was important for the Reds ahead of the biggest game in their history on Sunday (2pm) when they take to the field for the SSE FA Cup first qualifying round tie against a Stockingford side who won West Midland Regional Women’s League North last season.

Despite goals from in-form attacker Courtney Claassen and Ellie Gerhold, the Reds trailed 3-2 at the break, but hit back superbly to secure victory thanks to another strike from captain Gerhold and two goals from 16-year-old debutant Jodie Imms.

Two days earlier, Claassen and Mayme Conroy both bagged braces and Sofi Liperis and Tia Williams were also on the scoresheet in the win over the visitors from South Wales.

As ever, admission is free to Sunday’s match at the Trico as the Reds Ladies make their FA Cup bow.
