RUGBY UNION - Redditch suffer sixth straight defeat at Droitwich

REDDITCH RFC suffered a 35-21 defeat away at Droitwich II despite a valiant effort with the Kingfishers unable to prevent a sixth straight loss in the league.

The game was controlled by a member of Droitwich’s staff due to a shortage of society referees.

And Droitwich broke the deadlock with the game’s first try when their scrum-half darted through a gap in the Redditch defence following a series of scrums close to the visitors line.

However, Redditch levelled the scored when Harvey Habgood jinked his way underneath the posts, after a crucial ball steal from Clarke Parker, with Will Spires adding the extras.

And Redditch went into the break with a seven-point lead when Matt Allen dotted down the visitors second converted try after good work from captain Aaron Atkinson.

An ankle injury to Allen turned the game in Droitwich’s favour who levelled the scored with a try from the base of a scrum.

And Droitwich ran in three further tries to leave Redditch with too much to do despite scoring a consolation try and just missing out on a fourth score that would have secured two crucial bonus points.

The result means Redditch sit 10th in the Counties 4 Midlands West (South) table.

Redditch are next in action away at Stourport on Saturday, December 10.
