THE REDDITCH School Games annual tennis competition took place at Redditch HDA Tennis Club and attracted over 80 pupils from town schools.

Teams consisted of four players – two boys and two girls – and there were 11 teams competing in the year three and four event and ten teams in the year five and six competition.

The year three and four event took place in the morning and teams from Meadow Green, Batchley, Moons Moat, Crabbs Cross and Coppice schools all competed.

Each team competed in timed matches in a round-robin format and the Coppice A team and Batchley A side topped their groups and secured a place in the final.

After some close matches Coppice A had the edge, beating Batchley A team to secure a place in the county final.

The year five and six event took place in the afternoon and featured Coppice and Meadow Green with three teams each and Church Hill and Walkwood with two apiece.

The round-robin draw saw Walkwood A and Meadow Green A top their groups and progress to the final. Walkwood A were victorious, booking their place in the county final after defeating Meadow Green A.

The year seven and eight competition was a doubles contest and Church Hill A won the event.

The Coppice A year three and four team and Walkwood A year five and six side will represent Redditch district when they compete in the County School Games on June 23 at Bromsgrove School.
