FOOTBALL - Tim Flowers targets derby joy as Alvechurch prepare for Bromsgrove Sporting trip

TIM Flowers wants Alvechurch to show an ‘immense and intense’ work ethic when they play local rivals Bromsgrove Sporting in a crunch derby clash this weekend.

Flowers made a dream start to life as Church boss after securing back-to-back wins against Bedford Town and Highgate United respectively.

Church battled to a 1-0 win against Bedford at Lye Meadow last weekend as Archie Crowther headed in the game’s only goal.

And Alvechurch then won 3-0 at Highgate in the Birmingham Senior Cup in midweek with Sam Perry, Ammar Dyer and Jaelon West all on target.

Church sit two points above the Southern League Premier Central relegation zone with rivals Sporting five points from safety.

And Flowers insists Alvechurch need to be at their best to claim the derby spoils this weekend.

Flowers said: “I believe what we’ve got in this dressing room shouldn’t be loitering around where they are, they have to take a lot of responsibility for that and they’ll take responsibility for getting us higher up the division.

“I want to see an immense and intense work ethic which they’ve shown in the two games so far, it’ll be a very tough game.

“Bromsgrove have massively improved in the last couple of weeks, they were very unlucky at Sudbury.

“I’m under no illusions, we’re going to have to be absolutely at our best to get anything at all.”

Flowers guided Sporting to safety in the division last season only for the Rouslers to replace the now Church boss with Paul Smith in the summer.

Smith resigned from his role at the Victoria Ground earlier this month while Flowers recently stepped away from his job at Redditch United to become Alvechurch boss in a surprise move.

And Flowers has already tasted victory at Sporting this season after guiding former club Redditch to a 2-1 derby win back in September.

Alvechurch travel to Bromsgrove Sporting on Saturday, November 30 with kick-off at 3pm at the Victoria Ground.
