TIM Flowers heaped praise on loan star Jose Marquez after the teenager scored a hat-trick in Alvechurch’s FA Cup win against Leamington.
Marquez netted a perfect nine-minute treble at Lye Meadow to send Alvechurch through to FA Cup third round qualifying.
Church will host National League South side Chelmsford City in the next round of the competition.
And Flowers praised Forest Green Rovers loanee Marquez after the 19-year-old scored for the third game in a row to continue his fine form.
Flowers said: “We were second best all over the pitch for the first 20 minutes. We found ourselves on the ropes.
“We were struggling on the back foot but from that period on we were the better team.
“We showed some real quality in the second half and Jose scored a perfect hat-trick.
“He’s a Johnny-on-the-spot, fox in the box type lad. He’s a brilliant kid and he’s really enjoying it here.
“It was excellent and on the balance of the game we deserved to win.”
Alvechurch have now recorded three successive clean sheets and six wins from their last seven matches in all competitions.
And Flowers admits he cannot ask for any more from his players with the club also currently in the Southern League Premier Central play-off places.
Flowers added: “Lots of different things give you confidence. That’s three clean sheets in a row.
“We’ve won six out of our last seven, if you’re ever going to be confident it should be now.
“But there’s many different types of confidence. There’s confidence that evaporates at kick-off time and confidence that’s arrogance.
“I want lads to be here who are confident and understand what their roles and responsibilities are and get on with it.
“I can’t ask any more of the players who are going out there and producing what we’re asking.
“They’re representing the club in a fantastic manner.”
Alvechurch are next in action against Bury Town on Saturday, September 20 with kick-off at 3pm at Ram Meadow.
