LLOYD Glasspool began the defence of his Wimbledon men’s doubles title with a dominant straight sets victory alongside playing partner Julian Cash.
The Redditch tennis player combined with Cash to claim a comfortable 6-3, 6-0 victory on Court Five at Wimbledon.
Glasspool and Cash cruised to victory in just 51 minutes as the number three seeds look to defend their crown.
The defending champions dropped just seven points on their first serves and did not face a single break point.
And the pair won 81 per cent of points on their opponents’ second serve, also converting five of nine break-point opportunities.
Glasspool and Cash are hoping to become the first men’s doubles team to defend the title since Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic in 2008 and 2009.
The British pair have struggled for form in 2026 after beginning the year as runners-up at the Qatar Open.
However, the duo responded to win the Barcelona Open on clay but exited both the Australian Open and French Open at the second round stage.
Glasspool and Cash will play French pair Corentin Moutet and Arthur Reymond in the second round of the competition.
Moutet and Reymond overcame the all-British pair of Johannus Monday and Harry Wendelken in three sets (6-3, 1-6, 6-1) to reach the second round.
