FELIX Gill, from Redditch, suffered a valiant straight sets defeat on his Wimbledon singles main draw debut against Spain’s Rafael Jodar.

The 24-year-old Brit received a wildcard to play in the men’s singles main draw at Wimbledon as he made his Grand Slam debut as a singles player.

Gill entered Wimbledon at a career-high ranking of 220 and played at Eastbourne in the build-up to the Grand Slam.

The Redditch player took to Court Three against 23rd seed Jodar who recently reached the quarter-finals at the French Open.

Gill lost 6-3, 6-3, 7-5 against 19-year-old Jodar who sits 26th in world rankings.

The crowd cheered warmly in support of Gill as he departed the court

Redditch’s Gill recently reached the third round of qualifying at the French Open.

He previously made it through to the second round of the doubles competition at Wimbledon back in 2022.

Gill’s preferred surface is clay and he has won all nine of his ITF World Tennis Tour titles on clay.
