SHIHAN Dave Treadwell will lead the England karate team at the International Combat Organisation (ICO) World Championships later this year.
Treadwell, founder and chief instructor at Furi Sutairu Karate Federation in Redditch, will lead the England team in France this October.
The Redditch martial arts instructor took on the role of ICO England karate president last year and will now lead England at the World Championships.
Treadwell said: “When I took on the role of ICO England Karate President, I had one clear goal – to put karate back on the map.
“What an incredible journey it has been.
“In just over 15 months, our squad has grown tremendously – not only in numbers, but in stature, standard, and belief.
“We have built something truly special. A squad that feels like a family. Everyone works together, supports one another, and shares the same vision.
“I would like to thank every single person who has helped make this possible. We have an outstanding group of athletes, coaches, supporters, and followers who all play their part.
“This is not about different clubs or individual agendas. It is about one family of martial artists coming together, pushing each other forward, and striving for excellence.
“I’ve always said that people buy into people. They don’t buy into brands or concepts alone – they buy into individuals who are tried, tested, and proven.
“Since taking on this role, I’ve always aimed to lead by example and lead from the front. I believe that approach, combined with the dedication of everyone involved, has helped create the culture and belief that we now have within the squad.
“Now, our focus turns to the next challenge – taking this squad to the forefront of the World Championships in France this October.
“The hard work continues, but the belief is stronger than ever.”
