JAMES ROBBINS believes Alcester Town’s sharp-shooting has provided the extra edge in their storming run.

Alcester made it five league wins out of seven after hitting back from conceding two early goals to defeat AFC Solihull 7-2 last Saturday as Matt Layton netted a hat-trick for the third game in a row.

Matt Trinder, Nick Dance and player-manager James Robbins were also on target.

They will look to maintain the momentum on Saturday when they head to Shipston Excelsior for a Midland League Division Three fixture.

“After the Wrens Nest game, we set the lads the task of winning the next three games, which we did and we will be looking to carry our form on through to the New Year,” said Robbins.

It is important we go in to every game with the right attitude, apply ourselves in the rite manner and the results will take care of themselves. I believe we have a good balance throughout the side now, we are more than capable of scoring goals (20 in the last three games) and defensively strong, something we struggled with in the early part of the season.”

Team-wise Adam Trinder is nursing a swollen ankle having been forced off against AFC Solihull last week but is hoping to be fit for the weekend.

Richard Eastell continues to step up his training following his hamstring injury while Kieran Downey serves the last of his three-game ban.

“We go into the Shipston game in decent form and we will be looking to carry that run on and continue to climb the table,” said Robbins. “This will be the third time we have played Shipston already this season, having lost to them in the League and beaten them in the Cup.

“Both sides are in decent form and Shipston can be a tricky side to play against, especially at their place, but it’s about us, how we apply ourselves, how we adapt to the conditions and I am confident that if we perform like we have been doing, then we stand a very good chance of taking maximum points from the game.”
