Alvechurch to face Worcestershire rivals in friendlies

ALVECHURCH will face neighbours Redditch United and Bromsgrove Sporting to prepare for their debut season in the Northern Premier League.

The promoted Churchmen, who ended the campaign just finished as treble winners, will return to training at the end of the month and then play eight friendlies – four home and four away – before kicking off in Northern Premier Division One South on August 12.

Ian Long’s men will face Bromsgrove, who were promoted themselves to the Midland Premier, on Tuesday, July 18 at Lye Meadow and then tackle Redditch at home in their final warm-up game on Saturday, August 5.

Alvechurch, back playing Step Four football for the first time in 25 years, will plays opponents from six different leagues.




They begin with an away friendly against Tipton Town, with Long renewing acquaintances with the first club he managed, on Wednesday, July 12, followed by a trip to Hereford Lads Club on Saturday, July 15.

After the Sporting game, Alvechurch visit Paget Rangers, who groundshare at Boldmere St Michaels’ 3G pitch, on Saturday, July 22 and then meet Southern Premier Stratford Town on Tuesday, July 25.


Stourbridge, who reached the Northern Premier play-off final, are the visitors on Saturday, July 29 before Long’s men head to Highgate United on Tuesday, August 1.
