Astwood Bank hoping to claw themselves away from danger

Redditch Editorial 3rd Aug, 2018   0

ASTWOOD BANK will look to turn the tables when they head to Walmley in Birmingham League Division Two tomorrow (Saturday).

The clash pits the table-toppers against the team at the foot of the table, with Bank desperate to garner some points in their fight to climb the rankings.

While Walmley lie eight points clear of C&R Hawks in the fight for the title, Bank trail second-from-bottom Streetly by 18 points.

Last weekend, Steve Adshead’s side were frustrated by the weather as their match against fourth-placed Sutton Coldfield was washed out.

Jacob Squire-Wood (80), Tom Eustace (57) and Lee Thomason (46) fired Sutton to 211-3 in 41.2 overs before the rains intervened.

Astwood Bank Seconds managed to get the better of the weather and hosts West Bromwich Dartmouth in their 2nd XI Premier Division contest.

Having powered to 258-4 in 50 overs, Bank had Dartmouth hanging on at 217-9 to take a winning draw.

Bank’s innings was built around a century from opener Michael Desmond (103), with David Sewell (44) and Connor Adams (52). Desmond and Sewell put on 91 for the first wicket and Desmond and Adams continued the good work with a stand of 104 runs.

In reply, Green’s bowlers kept chipping away with Andrzej Jagielski (3-59) and George Haslam (3-44) both taking three wickets.

The Seconds entertain Barnt Green tomorrow.

Bank Thirds’ match at Shropshire side Claverley in Worcestershire County League Division Four was abandoned after the hosts reached 96-4 in 19 overs. Bank travel to Alveley tomorrow.
