Austin to meet Black in Keith Turner Cup final

THE WINTER weather caused widespread disruption to Sunday’s Redditch & South Warwickshire Combination league programme, but there was some key cup action.

Austin Ex-Apprentices will meet Black Horse in the Keith Turner Cup final after the semi-finals beat the weather.

Austin had a comfortable 4-0 win over Hizza United to reach the final as Andy Nicol added two more to his tally for the season, whilst Black Horse cantered to an 8-1 victory over Wychbold RBL as Brendan Hicks and Dan Carter scored two goals each.

Division One leaders Millfield Rovers made it through to the Studley Charity Cup final after narrowly defeating Alvechurch Sunday 3-2 thanks largely to the efforts of two-goal Craig Swallow.

In the BRT Terry Cup, Division One side Alcester Town took South Redditch to extra time but Gary Harvey’s two goals proved to be the match-winning factor as the Premier Division side emerged 3-2 victors.

The only league game on Sunday was in Division Two and it proved to be a fitting memorial tribute to Vinay Ladwa as VKL United pushed mid-table Abbeydale all the way before the visitors triumphed 2-1.

This coming Sunday sees the quarter-finals of the BCFA Sunday Cup in which Black Horse host Haunchwood Sports from Nuneaton and Austin Ex-Apprentices make the shorter journey to Thimblemill to take on OKM.

Results: BRT Terry Cup – Alcester Town 2 (Dipple, Downey) South Redditch 3 (Harvey 2, Montgomery) (AET).

Keith Turner Cup semi-finals – Austin Ex-Apprentices 4 (Nicol 2, Jordan, Wilcox) Hizza United 0; Wychbold RBL 1 (Maycroft) Black Horse 8 (Hicks 2, Carter 2, J Adams, Hall, Byford, Edwards).

Studley Charity Cup semi-final – Millfield Rovers 3 (Swallow 2, Dews) Alvechurch Sunday 2 (Watson, Gittings).

Division Two – VKL United 1 Abbeydale 2.
