HIGH-FLYING Bank 2nds suffered a five-wicket defeat in the last over at Bridgnorth in Birmingham League Division One 2nd XI.

Having won the toss, Bank skipper Andy Williams had no hesitation in having a bat and Dave Price (30) and Chris Hancox (32) got the visitors off to a solid start.

However, after losing three quick wickets, Williams (62no) and Joel Haslam (20) had to rebuild during the middle overs before Tom Shepherd cut loose with a quickfire 71 to get the Bank up to 251-5 from their 50 overs.

Young Josh Baker again impressed with the ball as he took 2-39 and Joel Haslam claimed 3-55, but Matthew Martin (114no) and batted superbly to lead the hosts home with one ball to spare.

Leaders Bank will look to bounce back when they host second placed Old Elizabethans on Saturday.

ANDY CLAYTON made 76 and Paul Boycott 42 to help set up a 114-run victory for Bank 3rds at table-topping Martley in Worcestershire League Division Four.

The visitors’ total of 224-7 was also boosted by a late onslaught from Steve Haines (28no), but the hosts then got off to a flyer as they scored 32 off the first four overs.

However, once both openers perished to James Boycott – one to a ball keeping low and the other to a smart slip catch by man of the match Clayton – Martley’s middle order showed little stomach for the fight as wickets fell at regular intervals.

Miles Haslam cleaned up the tail with 4-18 and the rest of the wickets were shared equally between James Boycott, Isa Zaroo and Dennis Freeman.

The result leaves third placed Bank 21 points behind Martley and eight adrift of second placed Five Ways Old Edwardians, who also lost.

DANIEL BROOKES produced some hostile bowling as he took 4-13 to set up Bank 4ths’ two-wicket victory over visitors Martley 2nds in Division Four 2nd XI.

The visitors were dismissed for 103 in 35 overs and in reply Jake Browning (26) and Flynn Duggan (25) led the way as the Bank scraped home.

The 5THs saw their Cotswold Hills League Division Seven encounter at Kenilworth Wardens abandoned, but there was more action on Sunday as Bank won their Worcestershire League 1st XI South T20 encounter at Redditch Entaco by seven wickets.

Andrzej Jagielski again proved an influential figure for the Bank as he took a brilliant 4-9 off his four overs which helped restrict the hosts to 102-9 as only Tom Field (23) scored more than 20.

Jake Price also bowled well to take 1-21 off three overs having conceded 17 in his first over.

However, Redditch, like the Bank, have been in good form and they were in no mood to lie down as Warren Bisp (2-23 off three) produced some impressive swing bowling to dismiss Tom Pedley and Tom Underhill.

With the rain falling, the Bank needed to up the run rate and the introduction of Sam Thomas (37) and Pete Alexander (26no) to the crease made the difference.

The result was confirmed when Tom Shepherd (18no) sent two towering sixes into the crowd to seal a good win for the Bank, who host Himley in T20 action on Sunday (3pm).
