THE first matches of the 2014 East Worcestershire T20 Cricket League took place on Wednesday and there were wins for Astwood Bank, Bromsgrove Boars and Redditch.

The seven-team league, which will see all teams play each other, will culminate in a final between the top two at the home of last year’s champions Bromsgrove on July 10.

Astwood Bank hosted Barnt Green and elected to bowl and Dan Taylor picked up 3-28 as Barnt Green made 181-5, with opener Edward Pollock making 63.

In reply Bank reached 186-4 off 16.4 overs as Andy Alexander made 56 and Pete Alexander a brilliant unbeaten 48 off 13 balls.

St Godwald’s Park was the venue as Bromsgrove hosted Droitwich Spa and the home side won by eight wickets.

Spa won the toss and elected to bat and made 138-6 off their 20 overs as Tom Russell did the damage with 5-26, overshadowing Max Young’s 62 and Connor Grant’s 63 not out.

The Boars reached their target in 16.1 overs as Ryan Pedley made an unbeaten 62 and Lewis Cordes 40.

At Bromsgrove Road Redditch took on Feckenham and were resounding ten-wicket winners.

Feckenham won the toss and elected to bat and made 120-8, but it was nowhere near enough to trouble the Kingsfishers who coasted to 122-0 off just 10.2 overs as Tom Field blasted an unbeaten 65 off 45 balls.

On Wednesday Astwood Bank host Bromsgrove and Barnt Green entertain Droitwich Spa, before Studley play their first match at home to Redditch on Thursday.
