Bank seek push for safety

Redditch Editorial 14th Aug, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016

A PRECIOUS seven-wicket victory over visitors Penn gave Astwood Bank’s Birmingham League Division Three survival hopes a huge boost on Saturday.

The 24-point win was even more crucial as fourth from bottom Milford Hall also collected maximuim points in their triumph at second bottom Newport.

With four sides set to go down, Steve Adshead’s Bank sit eighth in the table – eight points above Milford Hall in ninth but 28 above tenth placed Quatt – ahead of the six remaining matches which start on Saturday with a visit to promotion-chasing Bridgnorth.

The match is the first of the return of win/lose contests, so a thrilling end to the season is in store for Adshead’s men, who will be without the services of bowler Dan Thomas.

Dan Taylor (4-28) and Tom Harris (2-13) impressed as Bank dismissed Penn for just 109 in 38.1 overs before the hosts eased to 112-3 in reply inside 23 overs despite the early loss of key man Adshead, as Brandon Miller continued his improved form with an unbeaten 37.

STUDLEY stopped the rot in Warwickshire League Division One but lost further ground on third from bottom Bronze, who took a winning draw from Saturday’s encounter at Washford Fields.

Studley won the toss and chose to bowl and restricted the visitors to 171-9 from their 50 overs, but the hosts fell short of victory in reply as they closed on 155-8, which left them with ten points for their efforts and Bronze with 15.

Steve Rose’s Studley side remain second bottom and, with relegation looking increasingly certain, face the prospect of a visit to leaders Marston Green on Saturday.
