A MIXED Alcester side were beaten 32-0 by an experienced Stratford veterans team in a testimonial match for coach Keith Beech at Kings Coughton.
Beech played the first half – his first rugby for several years – in a game in which his side trailed 20-0 at the break.
Playing up the slope in the second half and having made several changes to their side, Alcester were more competitive, but they still conceded two more tries before the final whistle.
Following the game Alcester held their annual awards evening at which Beech was made a life member of the club due to his long service as a player and coach.
Assistant coach Brett Allard, who is also standing down from his role, was awarded the Family of the Year award with his wife Laura, who has been Alcester’s fixture secretary for several seasons.
Other award winners included: 1st XV Players’ Player – Phil Birks; 1st XV Coach’s Player – Matt Johnson; 1st XV Young Player – Oscar Holland; 1st XV Most Improved – Mat Ashby; 2nd XV Players’ Player – Sam Fell and Shaun Nash; 2nd XV Captain’s Player – Alec Aucott; 2nd XV Young Player – Josh Phillips; 2nd XV Most Improved – Jake Grainger; Impact Award – Lee Avery-Sherwood; Breakthrough Award – James Bates; Top Try-scorer – Jack Green.
Jeff Williams and Robbie Parker received special awards for their long service to the club and the fact they both still play rugby.
Sunday was the turn of the juniors for their awards day when coaches, parents and volunteers got to celebrate the hard work of the players throughout the season and recognise key individuals.
Zoe New was named Junior Club Person of the Year.
