Bees to look at young players in final game

STUDLEY will turn to their next generation in Saturday’s final match of the season as John Edwards and Wayne Bunn prepare to make changes in the summer.

After a 3-0 win at Coventry Copsewood on Saturday, the Bees were left frustrated to return with a 1-1 draw from their contest at Paget Rangers on Monday.

It means they sit in eighth spot as they head to Leicester Road for tomorrow’s final fixture, two points behind Uttoxeter Town and level with Cadbury Athletic.

Aaron Bunn, Wayne’s son, marked his debut with a goal at Copsewood, adding to strikes from Dan Carter and Dale Edwards, while Carter bagged the goal at Paget, only for Ross Dempster to fire home a penalty equaliser six minutes from time.

Central midfielder Bunn, who only turns 17 next week, comes into contention tomorrow as well as deadline signing Conor Johnstone, with Edwards suggesting other youngsters will also get their chance to impress.

“It’s been a frustrating season,” said Edwards. “We felt we could’ve done a little bit better. We’re probably going to finish eighth or ninth which is frustrating because the target was to be in the top six.

“But it’s also shown that we need to make changes and we will do that in the summer. The attitude of two or three of the lads has left a lot to be desired at times, they’ve let themselves down.”

Edwards and Bunn were more than happy with Studley’s win at Copsewood, having dominated, but the draw at Sutton Coldfield-based Paget was a familiar tale of failing to kill off the opposition. Then a mix-up presented Paget with a penalty to level.

“They were two tough away games and we felt we were fairly comfortable in both games once we had gone in front,” said Edwards.

“We got the goals to make sure of the points at Copsewood but we didn’t do that at Paget. I can’t knock the lads for the way they played overall but a little bit of naivety cost us.

“When you are 1-0 up away from home and bossing the game, you have to see it out. You can’t make mistakes.”
