Big names to come to town in Lashings fixture

Redditch Editorial 18th Jun, 2015 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

THE LOCAL cricket programme may have suffered a Saturday washout but there was still a cricketing buzz in and around Redditch Entaco CC with the confirmation of some star names who will be visiting Bromsgrove Road as part of the Lashings All-Stars team.

The club are making strides on and off the pitch to ensure the event is a great success and it has now been confirmed that former England Test stars Devon Malcolm and Phil DeFreitas will be among the players taking on the Kingfishers on Friday, August 14.

Lashings, who suffered their first defeat in two years recently against Eastbourne Cricket Club, will also be fielding the charismatic West Indian Tino Best in their ranks, as well as former international Test stars Gordon Greenidge, Wasim Jaffer and Saqlain Mushtaq.

All cricket lovers are welcome to come along on the day and more details about tickets are available by e-mailing [email protected].

Tickets are available from Heaphys, Studley Sports & Social Club and the cricket club off Bromsgrove Road. Adult tickets are £5, a family ticket is £10 and an under 16s ticket is £2.

All of Redditch Entaco’s Saturday matches were abandoned without a ball being bowled and this coming Saturday in Worcestershire League Division One the first team visit Hagley, whose 2nds travel to Bromsgrove Road.

Both the 3rds and 4ths face Hallow, with the 3rds at home.

On Wednesday evening Astwood Bank took the bragging rights with a narrow eight-run victory over visitors Redditch in the East Worcestershire T20 League.

In murky conditions the Bank posted 106-5 off 15 overs as opener Matt MacDonald led the way with 36 and Pete Alexander added a valuable 24.

All-rounder Perry Derrick was the pick of the Kingfishers’ bowling, taking 1-9 off three overs.

In reply Redditch started like an express train and quickly scored 37 in three overs through the exploits of Greg Chinn (33), but once he departed the Kingfishers struggled against some tight bowling.

Skipper Tom Phelan with a quickfire 24 brought Redditch back into contention but wickets continued to fall and they eventually fell short on 98-8.

Redditch complete their T20 fixtures on July 1 at home to Feckenham.

On Saturday Astwood Bank host Aston Manor in Birmingham League Division Three, whilst Studley head to Highway in Warwickshire League Division One.
