ALCESTER & Ragley compiled their highest league score in ten years as they crushed bottom side Moreton-in-Marsh by 280 runs on Saturday to boost their Cotswold Hills League Division One promotion chances.

With three matches remaining second placed Ragley are 16 points above third placed Kineton, with the top two to be promoted to the Premier Division.

Saturday’s victory was based on a huge score of 324-6. The innings started well and runs came quickly as Lee (36), Warbrick (42) and Tose (30) compiled runs.

However, wickets fell at regular intervals and Ragley at one stage were 135-5 after 26 overs.

Mark Fawthrop and Adam Peachey then added 93 runs in the next 13 overs until a run out resulted in Peachey departing for 36.

Fawthrop and Sam Westwood then added a further unbroken 98 runs in the final seven overs which lifted Ragley to this huge total. Fawthrop ended up unbeaten on a superb 79 and Westwood 51 not out from only 20 balls, with five sixes.

In response to this huge total Moreton subsided to 44 all out to leave Ragley with their biggest ever league win as they won by 280 runs.

Westwood completed a successful day as he claimed the first four wickets to fall. The innings was wrapped up in the 26th over as captain Steve Capron claimed the final wicket to finish with figures of 2-3, whilst Marc Woolley also returned outstanding figures of 2-0 from three overs.
