ASTWOOD Bank Women secured a thrilling tie at Moddershall on Sunday to maintain their lead in Women’s Midlands League Division Two.
The result leaves the Bank women clear at the top of the table with Moddershall 14 points behind in second place after four games.
On a hot day in Staffordshire, opener Clare Boycott hit 118 to put the Bank ladies in a very strong position.
However, with only Maddison Adams, skipper Boycott and Amelia Kite getting into double figures, there was a constant pressure on Boycott as she drove the score along and helped her side to 193 all out.
After tea the Bank ladies were looking in a good position as Jess Humby took the first wicket to leave a strong Moddershall side 9-1.
However, the hosts recovered with a strong batting performance to take the score to 169-4 after 36 overs, with the other wickets taken by Rosie Crumpton and Sally Livingstone (2-24).
The home team were now in the driving seat, needing only 20 runs from the next four overs to secure victory.
Boycott stepped up to the mark once again though and took the wicket of the dangerous captain Sara Dimmock before taking a further two wickets in quick succession, leaving the home side needing eight off the last over with three wickets in hand.
A dramatic last over from Humby ensued and some very tight fielding by the visitors meant the hosts could only muster a single off the last ball to force a tie.
