C&G Show take the honours

ONLY one team – Chris & Gerry Show – made a decent score in the four Swan Studley Skittles League games played in week 20 as they climbed off the bottom of the table with a big win over Team BG, who are now without a win in five.

C&G Show were 13 pins to the good after leg one and built steadily to lead by 47 pins before the fifth and last leg.

Team BG then salvaged a consolation point by winning that leg but it was far too late to change the outcome as C&G Show relaxed to seal a much-needed second successive win.

For the winners, Craig Sears made 36, Chris Williams 35 and Molly Burbridge and Dave Charlesworth 34 each.

Good scoring by Teams BG’s Ray Cartwright with 37, Rob Baker with 33 and Stuart Stringer and Gail Stringer with 32 each failed to inspire their team-mates.

After losing their first six games, Swingers have now won four of their last eight, with the latest a surprise victory over high-flying Alcester Nomads who produced their lowest total of the season to end a four-game winning run.

Nomads’ first leg score was very poor and Swingers took advantage to then lead by 17 pins before taking leg two for a 20-pin lead.

Although Nomads won each of the remaining three legs, they never seriously threatened to derail a cock-a-hoop Swingers, enjoying their best season for years.

Ecstatic Swingers’ best scorers were Brenda Leake with 37. Daren Harman with 32 and Margaret Hendy with 31. For Nomads, Geoff Lout made 37, Alan Cummings 34 and Bob Browning 32.

It was perhaps no surprise leaders Maudslay beat Jumbo Jet Set but the surprise was that both teams found scoring difficult in an uninspiring game as each made their lowest team totals of the season.

Jumbos repeated their poor effort of the previous week and, although level after two legs, found themselves behind by 15 pins after leg three and never looked likely to stage a recover as they had in their previous game.

Maudslay were always in control from then on and had Keith Fryer finishing with 37, Paul Matthews 34 and Stu Griffiths 32. Best for Jumbos were 31 pins each for Dan Hill, Rich Johnston and Rob Quartly.

Alley Cats climbed two places to sixth with a win that left opponents Well Developed bottom.

Well Developed started well with a 71-pin first leg, only to see Alley Cats top that score when their last man Graham Batchelor hit a 13-stack (the only stack of the week) to win the leg by two pins.

Boosted by that success, Alley Cats won the next three legs to extend their lead to 12 pins before Well Developed managed to win the last leg as they slipped to a third successive defeat.

Alley Cats’ main scorers were Neil Harrison and Graham Batchelor with 35 each and Malcolm Batchelor’s 33, while Well Developed had Jim Child making 36, Ros Pottinger 34 and Margueritte Bayley 31.

Results: Chris & Gerry Show 9 (323) Team BG 2 (290); Alcester Nomads 4 (292) Swingers 7 (299); Maudslay 8 (296) Jumbo Jet Set 3 (281); Well Developed 2 (296) Alley Cats 9 (303).
