ORGANISERS of the popular Redditch Gaza Appeal six-a-side football tournament – which has been held in Redditch over the last five years and raised nearly £6,000 – are staging their annual competition this year on Sunday, June 8 (10am-5pm).
The 2014 tournament will be in aid of the crisis in Syria and directly with the aims of benefiting widows and orphans in Syria.
One hundred per cent of whatever is raised will once again be donated to UK-registered charity Ummah Welfare Trust, which has a presence on the ground in Syria and operates a 100 per cent donations policy.
The money raised will be donated towards Ummah Welfare Trust’s ‘Sarmada Camp’ which supports widows and orphans and caters for their everyday needs, including shelter, food, clothing, medical supplies, education and sanitation.
The event will feature 18 teams from across England and will be held at Trinity High School & Sixth Form Centre’s astroturf.
Such is the anticipation among teams for the event, all 18 entries are full and have been for over seven weeks, with teams from Birmingham, Northampton, Coventry, Worcester and Loughborough already registered alongside teams from Redditch for the FA-affiliated tournament, which promises to be another fun and competitive event ahead of the World Cup in Brazil.
The organisers are still seeking sponsors or further donations and anybody willing to either sponsor, donate or participate towards/in the event can call 07867 755556 for more information or make a donation on the day itself or directly to Ummah Welfare Trust via its website.
The sponsors for the event to date are Gorilla Productions Media, internationally recognised sports media producers who work closely with the likes of boxing’s Golden Boy Promotions, Tint Ur Ride Automotive of Redditch, Impact Trophies & Merchandising of Hertfordshire, Caspian Pizza Redditch and BBiB Ltd of Redditch.
