Combination teams advance in cup competitions

DESPITE the rotten weather over the past week, only one Redditch & South Warwickshire Combination League game fell victim to the elements on Sunday when numerous league sides prevailed on cup duty.

In the Studley Charity Cup, Winyates Wanderers secured their place in the semi-final by beating Studley Railway 3-1.

Black Horse progressed into the semi-finals of the Worcestershire County Premier Cup by beating WCT Youth Raiders 3-0 with goals from Sean Brain, David Edwards and Steve Roche.

Austin Ex-Apprentices have moved into the next stage of the BCFA Roger Wood Memorial Cup after finally managing to stage their match against Red Lion of Judah at the third attempt as they enjoyed a 3-2 victory.




New Woodland Cottage narrowly lost 2-1 to Coles Bank Rangers which ended their hopes in the Birmingham Sunday Amateur Cup.

In the Premier Division there was a high-scoring game between Millfield Rovers and Rubery Bridge as Rovers won 5-3 thanks in part to a brace from Chris Lowe.


In the other game in this division OKH beat Sporting Club Redditch 4-1.

In Division One AFC Lions secured their first point of the season with a 4-4 draw against Coldstream as Matt Bailey scored all four goals for Lions.

Redditch Town beat VKL 1-0 and Redditch Cross lost 3-0 to Red Lion.

Four players struck doubles in the game between Royal Oak Alcester and Beoley Village. Hosts Royal Oak were on the mark through Myles Jones but Beoley Village ran out 6-2 winners as James Pugh, Sean Meek and Nathan Hurley all found the net.

THERE was also just one postponement in the Bromsgrove & District Football League.
