ASTWOOD BANK gave their Birmingham League Division Three survival hopes a shot in the arm with a two-wicket victory over visitors Streetly to collect 20 points.

However, with as many as four clubs facing the drop, Bank still sit 29 points behind Worcester in the last safe position as they prepare to host bottom placed Kings Heath on Saturday before visiting third placed Aston Manor on Monday.

Steve Adshead’s Bank won the toss and inserted Streetly and the hosts enjoyed a dream start as Michael Desmond (3-34) took a hat-trick to reduce the visitors to 14-3.

Opener Neil Curtis dug in for an excellent 62 but there was no help for him whatsoever as Tom Harris took two wickets and Jon Summers (4-27) tore through the middle and lower order to dismiss Streetly for just 108 in the 29th over.

Bank were cruising to victory but 48-0 became 53-4 and it took an excellent 38 off 36 balls from Tom Pedley to hold his side together as they scraped to 111-8 in the 34th over.

A WINNING draw against visitors Claverley kept ALVECHURCH & HOPWOOD ticking along nicely in the Worcestershire League Division Three promotion race, although they now sit seven points behind leaders Himbleton after the latter’s nine-wicket win over Cleobury Mortimer.

With four matches remaining, Alvechurch have a one-point advantage over third placed Chaddesley Corbett and one of the top three is going to end up disappointed in the battle to claim a place in Division Two.

Alvechurch were in destructive mood with the bat as they racked up a huge 359-8 off their 50 overs thanks to contributions from all of the top order.

Adam Markham-Jones made 72, Nick Jones 46 and Keith Rostill 41, but it was in-form Edd Rodgers who stole the show with a superb 100 off just 55 balls.

However, Alvechurch were denied the extra points a victory would have brought as the visitors clung on to finish on 212-9 in 38 overs in a rain-reduced reply, which saw Christian Battelley, John Pinsent, Mike Reuben and Rodgers all claim two wickets apiece as the Shropshire side scored at a brisk pace.

On Saturday Alvechurch visit Bartestree & Lugwardine before hosting promotion rivals Chaddesley Corbett on Monday.

FECKENHAM’S Worcestershire League Division Two clash at Enville was abandoned as a draw due to rain with the visitors 36-1 off nine overs in reply to the hosts’ 226-9, in which Tom Coulson continued his impressive form with 5-62 off 17 overs.

Mid-table Feckenham host second placed Bredon on Saturday before travelling to Worcester Dominies on Monday.
