Depleted Team BG maintain winning start

DESPITE having only nine players, Team BG narrowly beat Chris & Gerry Show to maintain their unbeaten start to the Swan Studley Skittles League season.
C&G Show scored consistently well and finished with their highest total this season but, after discounting their individual lowest leg scores, finished on the wrong end of the result.
C&G Show even won four of the legs but were undone by Team BG’s third leg total – a massive 83 pins including three stacks.
There were four other stacks in the game, including three for C&G Show whose best scorers were Paul Hollis 44 (15-stack), Craig Sears 42 (13 and 12 stacks) and Richard Fisher 37.
Team BG had Ray Cartwright making 39 (14-stack), Carl Baker 39 (13-stack) and Nina Moore 38 (12-stack).
Alley Cats made their highest team score to date to defeat Well Developed and climb into the top half of the table.
Bowling first, Well Developed made an impressive 76 total and led Alley Cats by 13 after leg one, only to slump to an inexplicably poor total of 47 in the next leg which let Alley Cats back into the game.
Well Developed never recovered from the setback and Alley Cats won each of the remaining legs to run out comfortable winners.
Well Developed’s Martin Brennan made 44 (13 and 11 stacks) and there were 33 pins each for team-mates Ron Skidmore, Liz Hindson and Jim Child.
Alley Cats’ Tony O’Connor made a 13-stack in a total of 41 and Anne O’Connor and Graham Batchelor scored 35 apiece.
Maudslay top the table for the first time this season after defeating Jumbo Jet Set.
A first leg score of 77 helped Maudslay lead by 19 pins after leg one but Jumbos shaded the remainder of the game to deny Maudslay valuable leg points which would have extended their league lead.
Maudslay’s first leg total was boosted by a stack of 13 by Lynn Fryer (who finished with 37) and a stack of ten by Paul Matthews (finishing with 39), while Mark Sanseverino totalled 36.
For Jumbos, best scorers were Len Quartly (41) and Steve Wardle and Geoff Turrell with 35 each.
Both Lodge Farmers and Swingers scored their highest team totals this season.
Lodge Farmers led by 24 pins after two legs and looked favourites to win all five legs, but Swingers had other ideas and, as Lodge Farmers faltered, took the remaining legs for a good share of the match points.
Glyn Morley made Lodge Farmers’ highest individual score this season with 38 pins (13-stack) and was helped by Alex Cull (35) and 34 each from Dave Rumble and Steve Smith.
Swingers had Paul Clifton making 35, Larry Hanks 34 and debutant Emily Barrett an excellent 33.
Results: Chris & Gerry Show 5 (328 pins – ten players and 310 pins – nine players) Team BG 6 (312 – nine players); Well Developed 2 (308) Alley Cats 9 (328); Maudslay 7.5 (329) Jumbo Jet Set 3.5 (309); Lodge Farmers 7 (309) Swingers 4 (296).
