BROMSGROVE & REDDITCH Athletic Club’s Jo Frost was in magnificent form as she won two gold medals at the European Masters Athletics Championships in Italy.
The 37-year-old headed to Ancona to represent Great Britain and won both the W35 60m and long jump as well as gaining a silver medal in the 4x200m relay.
Frost was amongst 285 British athletes competing in the championships, which saw 2,350 athletes entered from 43 different European countries.
Qualification for the 60m final came with the fastest time of the competition of 7.91s and the final provided a tight race in which Frost was able to see off GB team-mate Claire Spurway as she won in a time of 7.93s.
It was a gold and silver for GB, with the bronze medal going to Latvia.
Following on from Frost’s World title jump in Lyon, France, last August, the pressure was on in the long jump competition.
In another close event it went to the final two jumps for Frost to take the lead from a French athlete by 11cm with a season’s best jump of 5.79m. Bronze went to Italy.
A delighted Frost said: “I had a good winter’s training and then picked up an injury at the end of January, meaning I had to miss several weeks of training, undergo lots of physio and was unsure if I would even get to the championships.
“I only started training properly again in the last few weeks before they started so am really pleased to have won two golds.”
Frost now sets her sights on the World Championships in October in Perth, Australia, where she hopes to retain her world title in the long jump and also competes in the 100m.
