Encouraging victories

REDDITCH Entaco enjoyed a successful weekend against two teams from the Birmingham League.

Luke Davis led the first team to a four-wicket success against last season’s Worcestershire League Division One champions Worcester.

After winning the toss and electing to field, Worcester started confidently and put on 53 for the first wicket, but Redditch bounced back and wickets started to tumble, largely thanks to a magnificent spell of seam bowling from Waqas Ali (6-25) and Ghulam Moyhuddin (1-10) and Worcester crumbled to 132 all out.

In reply Redditch started positively despite losing skipper Davis (10) as Tom Field (29) and Russell Southwick (16) steadied the ship for the visitors.

Worcester bounced back and sensed an unlikely victory but Redditch reached their target with ten overs to spare as wicketkeeper Aaron Tozer (20no) saw the Kingfishers home.

On Saturday Redditch travel to Kenilworth, boosted by the arrival of their Australian overseas player Joe Scarcella, whilst Greg Chinn returns to the side.

Geoff Eley’s 2nd XI were too strong for a youthful Halesowen as they won by 65 runs at Bromsgrove Road.

Asif Mukhtar led the way with 94 not out as Redditch scored 200-5 off 45 overs.

In reply Halesowen struggled against the Redditch pace attack as Noman Choudry (3-9) and Tom Kitching (4-31) did the damage as Halesowen could only muster 135-8 off their 45 overs.

Kenilworth are the visitors to Bromsgrove Road on Saturday.

ON SUNDAY Redditch Entaco are holding a junior open day from 10am to noon when the club’s new ECB Level 3 coach Richard Hadley and senior first XI players will be on hand to give a sample of the great game of cricket free of charge.

Various coaching activities will take place throughout the session and if you would like more details about the event please contact club chairman Daren Field on 07985 382320 or e-mail [email protected].
