Girls savour success on the biggest stage

THE JUMP Rope UK senior team members turned on the style to claim multiple successes at the recent World Jump Rope Championships in Florida, USA.

Gemma McGhee, Lauren Shepherd, Stacie Pegg, Elly Allum, Chloe Greaves and team coach Rachael Dale headed across the Atlantic Ocean determined to impress and they certainly did as numerous gold medals were won.

The first four days were qualifiers for the Grand Finals on the Saturday and the girls competed in various events including individual as well as team.

Sue Dale, director of the locally-based Jump Rope UK, said: “The girls all did an amazing job of representing the UK and Jump Rope UK and can’t wait for next year’s World Jump Rope Championships which are coming to Europe for the first time – to be held in Paris in France – between July 21-30.




“Jump Rope UK members are now very busy and will be featured this summer on various TV programmes. The first to look out for is on August 4 when Lauren, Stacie and Lewis will be performing on the Disney Channel’s Tricks and Twists.”

Rachael Dale is part of the Nickelodeon Skills Crew and there will be plenty to savour on that front in the coming months too.


Jump Rope UK results from the qualifiers: 30-second speed: Stacie Pegg – 89 (senior 17 & younger) placed 4th; Gemma McGhee – 87 (senior 23-29) placed 1st (gold).

3-minute speed: Lauren Shepherd – 446.5 (senior 17 & younger) placed 1st (gold, new British record); Gemma McGhee – 409 (senior 23-29) placed 1st (gold).

Pairs Double Unders: Gemma McGhee and Claire Murray – 155 (senior 23-29) placed 3rd (bronze); Lauren Shepherd and Stacie Pegg – 155 (senior 17 & younger) placed 5th.

4×30-second speed relay: Lauren Shepherd, Stacie Pegg, Chloe Greaves and Elly Allum – 320 (senior 17 & younger) placed 3rd (bronze).

Pairs Wheel Freestyle: Chloe Greaves and Elly Allum – scored 5.3 (senior 17 & younger) placed 3rd (bronze).

4-person single rope freestyle: Lauren Shepherd, Stacie Pegg, Chloe Greaves and Elly Allum – scored 5.67 (senior 17 & younger) placed 1st (gold).

Following these results all scores from all age groups are calculated and the top teams qualify to take part in the Grand Finals. The girls qualified in the following events and these are their placings in the Grand Final.

30-second speed: Stacie Pegg (90, bronze trophy); Gemma McGhee 8th.

4×30-second speed relay – Lauren Shepherd, Stacie Pegg, Elly Allum, Chloe Greaves (347.5, silver trophy) – missing out on the World Jump Rope record by half a point.

3-minute speed: Lauren Shepherd (450, silver trophy) – setting another British record.

4-person team freestyle: Lauren Shepherd, Stacie Pegg, Elly Allum, Chloe Greaves 6th.
