Girls' tag rugby festival is a big success

KINGS Norton RFC’s Hopwood Park home hosted an all-girls tag rugby festival as the exciting countdown to the Rugby World Cup continued.

The event featured girls from local primary schools and thanks to chief organiser Craig Ellicott – sports master from Saint Laurence School in Northfield – 60 girls gathered for a fun and friendly festival to enjoy some competitive but fun tag rugby.

Schools represented included teams from Orchards, Raddlebarn, Bournville, The Meadows, West Heath, Kings Norton and Saint Laurence primary and junior schools and they were welcomed to the club by Rhinos’ girls’ squad manager Stuart Arch.

All the girls were awarded medals of participation and each team were given commemorative trophies for their schools to mark this pre-World Cup event.

Kings Norton Rhinos – the club’s junior section – started a girls’ tag rugby team last season and this coming season plan to enter the squad into the West Midlands Girls Tag Rugby League. Visit https://sites.google.com/site/westmidlandsgirlstagleague for more details.

The league is an open age group from eight to 17 but the Rhinos will accommodate boys and girls as young as five. They are looking for more local girls to join their girls squad so, if you are interested, come and give tag rugby a try. You can visit www.knrfc.co.uk.
