RAMPANT Alcester scored ten tries as they cemented their place among the leading lights in the division with a crushing victory on Saturday.

Alcester were the better team throughout as the visitors struggled to handle Alcester’s pace in attack and the speed in which they moved the ball.

The home supporters did not have to wait long to see the first try and it was man of the match and club captain Jack Green who scored it.

He went on to score four tries in all and collect 32 points of his own as he successfully kicked six conversions.

By the end of the first half Alcester were 24-5 up despite playing uphill and against the wind.

Centre Jamie Harland, who pushed his captain very close for the man of the match award, scored two first half tries while winger Lewis Walker collected his team’s fourth try which secured the try bonus point.

A lack of discipline and composure led to three Alcester players spending ten minutes each on the touchline after three yellow cards. Louis Smith, Neil Loy and George Green were the men binned for Alcester, whilst the visitors also collected one yellow card of their own on a busy day for the referee.

The cards failed to disrupt Alcester who were determined to secure their fifth league win in a row and they did so with ease with second row Lee Avery-Sherwood the powerhouse in the pack and number eight Mika Piera an attacking threat throughout.

Hooker Tom Harris and flanker Loy guaranteed a good return from the lineouts despite the windy conditions.

Tries in the second half flowed freely as the home side ran in another six.

As well as skipper Green’s haul, Walker completed his own hat-trick before prop Kyran Flynn crashed over in the final play of the game to complete the scoring and seal another fine Alcester victory which extended their advantage over fourth placed Pershore to five points.

Alcester return to league action on November 19 when they visit Kings Norton but before that head to Old Yardleians for a friendly on Saturday.

ALCESTER’S group of senior supporters – the Brostin Warmwell Society – have been tasked with choosing the club’s player of the month throughout the season and for October they chose teenage inside centre Jamie Harland.

He has made an excellent start to his senior rugby career having made the transition up from the Colts side at the end of last season.

Harland has forged a promising centre partnership with skipper Jack Green, with Harland’s subtle footballing skills complementing Green’s more powerful direct running approach.

ALCESTER Director of Rugby and 2nd XV skipper Stu Whitehead was able to call on his strongest side of the season so far and they gelled perfectly to send Alcester 2nds to their biggest win of the year to date.

Just like their 1st XV counterparts they ran in ten tries, although they were more evenly distributed than in that game with eight different scorers.

After leading 19-0 ahead at half time, the visitors cut loose in the second half with seven unanswered scores.

Captain Whitehead helped himself to two tries, as did Will Silk. Luke Spencer, Toby Allen, Anthony Cauvin, Matt Johnson, Jimmy Watson and Tim Jackson all crossed the line too, whilst Max Biltcliffe and Paul Taylor both added a conversion each to cap an excellent afternoon for the Kings Coughton men.

The 2nds take centre stage on Saturday (2.15pm) in Warwickshire 2nd XV Shield first round action at home to Coventry side Stoke Old Boys.

Northampton Men’s Own Colts 17 Alcester Colts 29

ALCESTER Colts recorded an excellent win against little known opponents despite being thin on the ground in numbers.

The visitors took control of the game early on and scored three times through James Gionis, Aden Rawlings and Oscar Holland, with Harry Adams adding a conversion.

Alcester led 17-7 at the break and soon extended their lead through the trickery of Cian Allen, who then scored a contrasting try a short while afterwards by powering through several would-be tacklers on his way to the line before Adams again added the conversion.

The hosts were able to introduce fresh legs and they added two tries to narrow their deficit, but this did little to detract from an excellent Alcester showing.
