History is made in new league

Redditch Editorial 23rd May, 2018 Updated: 23rd May, 2018   0

REDDITCH United and Alvechurch made history as they became the first teams to compete in Worcestershire’s and the West Midlands’ first ever summer youth league.

The rivals battled it out in the U12 Alfrick Group – one of five divisions making up the newly-formed Grassroots Open Alliance League (GOAL).

Paul McCarthy bagged the only goal of the game to secure Church the three points.

League secretary Colin Mortiboys said: “It was a proud moment to see the recently-established GOAL host its first match after months of preparation.

“We want to thank the Worcestershire FA and Birmingham County FA for their support of the project which will be the first ever summer youth league in the region, providing football from May to August.”

Any teams wishing to join GOAL as of next season should fill out an application form available from goalhq.wixsite.com/goal. Call Colin on 01527 877439 for further information.
