Improving Redditch Entaco aiming to finish with a flourish

IN-FORM Redditch Entaco complete their Worcestershire League Cup Group B campaign on Saturday aiming for a fourth successive victory which would clinch a third-placed finish.

Former first team captain and current wicketkeeper Adam Gailey will lead the Kingfishers at bottom of the group Belbroughton who have lost their last five fixtures.

Last weekend Redditch secured an impressive six-wicket victory as they defeated visitors Chaddesley Corbett with just three balls remaining.

Chaddesley lost early wickets but a magnificent 130 from Bilal Hassan and some wayward bowling from the Redditch seamers which resulted in 57 extras allowed the visitors to finish on 281-8 off their 40 overs.

Ghulam Moyhuddin was once again the pick of the Kingfishers’ bowling attack in taking 2-34 off eight overs.

In reply, once again Redditch openers Olly Mason and Adeel Sajid scored a century opening partnership, with Mason hitting a season’s best 84.

Captain Russell Southwick departed for just eight but Sajid grew in confidence to score his third century of the season and with Anis Suleman (34) the pair dominated the bowling.

Suleman and Sajid (113) departed in quick succession but the experienced Rizwan Mohammed and Moyhuddin held their nerve to see Redditch home in the final over.

Redditch 2nds finish their season on Saturday looking to bounce back following last week’s heavy defeat at Astwood Bank.

Group leaders Barnt Green are the visitors to Bromsgrove Road for the finale and skipper Luke Davis will be hoping for an all-round better performance.

Against Bank, Redditch were bowled out for just 92 in 30.3 overs with extras comfortably top-scoring with 37.

The Bank bowlers dominated the innings as Joel Haslam (2-28), Dan Brookes (2-21) and Dave Sewell did the damage.

Redditch needed early wickets and Haleem Basharat (2-20) and Tom Phelan (1-22) duly obliged, but a fine 41 from Andy Williams and 40 from Adam Warbrick saw the Bank home in just 18 overs to win by seven wickets.
