THIRTY-EIGHT young footballers took the chance to shine when they attended the inaugural This Girl Kicks camp at Redditch United.
The four-day camp was run by staff including Reds Ladies first team manager and Worcestershire Schools’ FA Girls U14s and U16s manager Gary Barrell and a host of female coaches.
Barrell said: “It was a great opportunity for girls from across the county to get high quality coaching from coaches including Americans who have played at the highest level at university in America and are here for the year supporting community projects with This Girl Kicks, as well as playing for Redditch United Ladies.
“It also helped former and current Worcestershire Schools players gain vital coaching experience, showing there are opportunities for them to develop through football outside of playing.”
The camp catered for girls from U8, U10, U12 and U14 age groups and the activities included soccer-specific agility drills, small-sided games, technical and footwork drills and passing and finishing games.
From Friday, October 7 a girls-only This Girl Kicks Player Development Centre will take place at Nunnery Wood High School in Worcester for girls who would like to gain additional high quality coaching alongside what they receive from their clubs.
This will be for the U8, U10, U12 and U14 age groups. Spaces will be limited to 12 per group. To register, email Gary Barrell at [email protected].
