It's a welcome win for Well Developed

Redditch Editorial 19th Feb, 2018   0

WELL DEVELOPED overcame fellow strugglers Swingers to secure their first victory of the Swan Studley Skittles League season.

Swingers played a man short but after leg two were ten pins to the good and seemed odds-on to win, only for their wheels to come off when Well Developed won leg three to be just two pins adrift.

An unnerved Swingers team then had a disastrous fourth leg score which let in Well Developed who found themselves leading by 16 pins and then pulled further away when winning leg five to ease to a comfortable victory.

Jim Child made 41 (13-stack), Liz Hindson 35 and Martin Brennan 33 (13-stack) for Well Developed. Best for Swingers was Larry Hanks with 37.

The other first was Engineers’ loss – after a ten-game winning start to the season – to Alcester Nomads.

Nomads had only a one-pin lead after leg one but then pulled out a mammoth 80-pin score in leg two to open a 21-pin lead which effectively won the game.

However, Engineers took each of the remaining three legs to salvage valuable leg points and stay as firm championship favourites, with Craig Sears making 41 (13-stack) and Mark Ganderton and Brandon Kelso 36 each.

Nomads’ win pulled them back into contention for the runners-up spot and they had Geoff Loat scoring 45 (17-stack), James Marshall 44 (13-stack) and Mac Eaton 37.

Up to second are Lodge Farmers following a big win and maximum points when seeing off Alley Cats.

Ten pins ahead after leg one and 18 ahead after leg two, Lodge Farmers could afford to relax and they cruised home with good scores from Richard Long 41, Tim Jones 39 (13-stack) and Kim Clewlow 37.

For Alley Cats, Tony O’Connor maintained his recent great form to register a third successive 40-plus score, the latest being 45 (14-stack), and Dave Charlesworth and Ann Harrison scored 38 and 32 respectively.

Another maximum return was secured by Team BG who comfortably beat Swan playing a man short.

Team BG were ten pins ahead after leg one and built on that advantage as Swan struggled to find any consistent form.

Mary Withers and Carl Baker made 35 each and Margaret Sanders 32 (11-stack) for Team BG. Swan’s best scorers were Bob Haycock with 34 and Scott Frankton with 33.

Results: Swingers 3 (258 pins – nine players) Well Developed 8 (305 pins – ten players and 286 pins – nine players); Alcester Nomads 7 (341) Engineers 4 (329); Alley Cats 1 (308) Lodge Farmers 10 (337); Team BG 10 (297 – ten players and 285 – nine players) Swan 1 (250 – nine players).
