Junior Queenfishers savour a significant club milestone

Redditch Editorial 7th Nov, 2019 Updated: 7th Nov, 2019   0

THERE was a significant moment for Redditch Rugby Club on Sunday when the girls’ team played full contact rugby for the first time.

Moving on from the touch variation of the game, this is hopefully the start of an initiative which will grow so the Bromsgrove Road club can eventually field their own ladies full contact side.

Having links with both Worcester Valkyries and Moseley Ladies sides means the club’s coaching opportunities are growing and they are looking to attract more girls to the club.

The junior Queenfishers, led by captain Sophie, relished Sunday’s visit to Coventry side Pinley and a fine display was rewarded with an 8-6 victory thanks to tries from Liv (3), Leah (3), Millie and Jess.

There was no fixture for Redditch men on Saturday following Trinity Guild’s resignation from the league.

The Coventry side’s results have been expunged, which leaves the Kingfishers fifth in Midlands Five West (South) with three wins from four matches ahead of their return to league action at home to Rugby Welsh on November 16.
